If you are keen on attending this course, please register your interest via course enquiry form.

This training aims to give a comprehensive overview on LTE-specific Signaling Protocols and Procedures.

At the end of this course, participants will gain knowledge of:

  • Non-access stratum and access stratum signaling
  • The concept of user plane and control plane protocols
  • The role of Radio Link Control (RLC), Radio Resource Control (RRC) and Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP)
  • MAC procedures in LTE
  • Following message sequences on various interfaces
  • Interworking with non-LTE systems
  1.   LTE Architecture and Components
  2.   Core Network: SAE Overview
  3.   Generic LTE / SAE Protocol Architecture
  4.   E-UTRAN Network Interface: S1
  5.   E-UTRAN Network Interface: X2
  6.   Control Plane Protocols: Radio Resource Control – RRC
  7.   User Plane Protocols: Packet Data Convergence Protocol – PDCP
  8.   User Plane Protocols: Radio Link Control – RLC
  9.   User Plane Protocols: Medium Access Control – MAC
  10.   Non-Access Stratum – NAS Signalling
  11.   Evolved GTP: GTPv2-C
  12.   Wrap-Up: Workshop Summary and Discussion
Note: A Certificate of Completion will only be issued upon achieving at least 75% attendance for the course.
  • A solid understanding about Signaling in GSM/UMTS systems
  • Participants should be familiar with the concepts and ideas of SS7 and GPRS related signaling in earlier 3GPP systems
  • An understanding of the signaling implementation in UMTS is beneficial
