Optical Transmission Planning and Dimensioning

This course equips participants with a solid technical grounding in the architectures, technologies, and network elements that underpin modern and evolving Optical Transport Networks (OTN). It covers essential topics such as optical components, link budget analysis, optical amplifiers, WDM-based transmission, and the application of optical solutions in cellular environments.

Participants will refresh their understanding of fiber-optic principles while exploring the latest developments and market trends shaping next-generation optical networks. As demand for bandwidth continues to accelerate—driven by the Internet of Everything, big data, and 5G—OTN plays an increasingly critical role in supporting network growth, capacity, and performance.

Through practical workshops and guided design exercises, participants will learn how to plan, design, and dimension a basic OTN, enabling them to apply these concepts directly to real-world network environments.

  • Fiber core network planners and designers
  • Telecommunications technicians and network supervisors
  • Strategic, technical, or engineering managers
  • Systems engineers and network operations staff
  • Technical marketing, product, and sales personnel
