LTE International Roaming

COURSE OBJECTIVES
After successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of SS7 network, MTP3/M3UA based and GT based routing
  • Implement effective routings in SCCP-GT level in relation to International Roaming
  • Appreciate the different MAP protocols and related interfaces
  • Appreciate ISUP signaling and some call flows
  • Understand GSM/UMTS/LTE Concepts which includes Numbering Plan, Mobile Service Management and Security Management
  • Learn the basics of SIP signaling
  • Understand the requirements of International Roaming, including call flow analysis
  • Understand Roaming Networks, roaming types, network flow, its interconnections, analysis and troubleshooting
  • Learn the essentials of steering of roaming, and local break-out

PRE-REQUISITE FOR PARTICIPANTS
A basic knowledge of Mobile Communication and basic SS7 Signaling will be required

  • Understanding Evolution of Mobile Communication (GSM to IMS Networks)
  • Overview of GSM Network/Components/GSM Interfaces/Protocols
  • GSM Numbering Plan, GSM Mobile Service Management, GSM Security Management
  • Overview of 3G/4G Networks/ MSS Nodes (MSC Server and MGW)
  • Introduction to Roaming Networks
  • Inbound and outbound Roaming

DAY 2

  • GSM Service Flow Analysis (Voice and Data)
  • Signaling System No. 7 Overview and ISUP Signaling
  • Fundamentals of SCCP Routing, GT Analysis
  • Understanding GSM MAP Signaling
  • 3G call flows
  • 4G call flows
  • Case Study: GT Analysis
  • Case Study: MAP Signal Traces Analysis

DAY 3

  • Basic GSM SMS Theory
  • Understand SMS in Roaming Networks (Inbound and Outbound Roaming)
  • Understand Basics of CAMEL Signaling in Roaming Networks
  • Introduction to LTE Roaming
  • Basic SIP Signaling and Call Flow
  • Case Study: Analyzing a SIP Call (Using Wireshark Tracer)

DAY 4

  • Understand International Roaming Implementation
  • Network Implementation (HLR & SCCP Connections)
  • Establishing International Roaming (Commercial, IREG, TADIG testing and documentation used such as AA.12, AA.13, AA.14, IR.21 and used test cases)
  • Understand Process Flow of International Roaming
  • Convergence Billing for postpaid and prepaid roaming
  • International Roaming Billing (CDR flows and TAP creation)
  • Understanding the Role of DCH and FCH in Roaming
  • Dealing on Fraud and Roaming Disputes
  • Analysis of International Roaming Call Flow (Voice, SMS & GPRS)

DAY 5

  • Understand Prepaid Roaming including call flows
  • Case Study: Sample CAMEL Traces
  • Understand Steering of Roaming (Method of Steering)
  • Steering of Roaming Features (blacklist, network barring, disable SOR)
  • Location Update Error Codes and its impact on Roaming
  • Understanding Local Breakout (LBO)
  • Troubleshooting concepts in International Roaming
  • Roaming value added services (VHE,short codes, Voice Mail tromboning)
