Course Overview

The standards that allow different networks and communications equipment to talk to one another are formalised in digital rules known as ‘communications protocols’. The two most important are the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and the Internet Protocol (IP). They are also mandatory in almost all fields related with Telecom and IT, including Wireless Communications Systems, Satellite Communications, Submarine Cable, Optical Fiber Systems,  Data Centers, Big Data, etc.

This course introduces the student to the concepts of TCP/IP and 7-Layer architecture. Protocols associated with each layer will be discussed, giving the student a broad overview of data communication fundamentals. Different networking devices will be discussed, highlighting the role of MAC addresses and IP addresses. At the end of this course, participants will understand how services are provided over the Internet using TCP/IP protocol suite with due consideration given for security.
