Course Overview

fttx planning

FTTx refers to fiber links being laid as far as the cabinet (FTTC) or as far as the building (FTTB) whilst FTTH describes connections all the way to the home itself.

This course describes the different FTTx architectures, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the various solutions.

The key planning, design and construction rules of Optical Distribution Networks (ODN) are explored. Network Operations and Maintenance challenges are described.

A number of case studies are considered and there is the opportunity for participants to participate in practical work that include the design of network in different scenarios, and the preparation of business case for Cost Benefit Analysis.

OTDR, Optical Power Meters, Optical Source (OLTS) and Fusion Splicing will be used for Lab Work.
